John 20:1-23

Jesus Has Ultimate Power vv.1-10

He Has Ultimate Power Over His Death and our Death.

John 10:17-18 “For this reason the Father loves me, because I lay down my life that I may take it up again. No one takes it from me, but I lay it down of my own accord. I have authority to lay it down, and I have authority to take it up again. This charge I have received from my Father.”

Romans 8:11 “If the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, he who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through his Spirit who dwells in you.”

Jesus Has an Unashamed Purpose vv.11-18

His purpose was to bring glory to the Father.  Our purpose is to bring glory to the Father. 

Luke 19:10 “For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.”

Jesus cares for Mary, but His goal is to please God!  It is almost as if He’s telling Mary, sister don’t get comfortable, your purpose is to live in the future for my glory, not the past!

Jesus Brings Unending Peace vv.19-23

Isaiah 55:10 “For the mountains may depart and the hills be removed, but my steadfast love shall not depart from you, and my covenant of peace shall not be removed,” says the Lord, who has compassion on you.”
