Revelation 22:6-21
Be Confident in His Word (Rev. 22:6-7)
We are confident in Christ’s return. The resurrection confirms it and gives a little clue. John 20:7 “and the face cloth, which had been on Jesus head, not lying with the linen cloths but folded up in a place by itself.” The Culture reveals it.
He Returns and We are Given a Clue (John 20:7)
He Returns as the Conqueror (Rev. 19:11-16)
He Returns as the Counselor (Rev. 20:11-15)
He Returns as the Groom for His Church (Rev. 22:16-17)
Be Compelled to Worship (Rev. 22:8-9) The New Testament says little about worship other than what Paul says in Ephesians 5:19 “…psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord”. Worship is giving God worth. That’s done through song, word, missions, service, etc. We are not to be constrained to one form. When we worship a form of worship or a preference of worship we are in essence worshipping something other than Christ! We’re worshipping self. The Old Testament form of worship is come see and the New Testament form of worship is go tell.
Be Consumed by Christ, not the World (Rev. 22:10-15)
Be Connected to the Vine, and Ready for the Great Wedding (Rev. 22:16-17)
Abiding, working, serving, a disciple who makes disciples. John 15
Be Committed to the Word, not False Ways (Rev. 22:18-19)
We as Baptist, take seriously a through commitment to God’s Word. We preach and teach it, strive to labor over it, and strive to live it. There is grave danger in falsehood. Bending scripture to teach the acceptance of homosexuality or any other sinful lifestyle is false. The way we must handle any issue is with love and care, but with truth. John 8 makes it crystal clear that only the truth of Christ can bring freedom.
Love + Truth = Liberty (Biblical Truth)
Love – Truth = Liberalism (Worldly Truth)
Truth – Love = Legalism (Self-Righteous Truth)
Two of the most well-known revelation adders are the:
- LDS (Mormon) They have additional books: Book of Mormon, the Book of Doctrine and Covenants and the Pearl of Great Price as well as a president who continually hears revelations from (g)od. In my notes I put little (g) because I don’t believe they worship the Triune God that we worship. The headline reads: Mormon leaders reverse LGBT policy, raising the question: What is revelation?
- The Jehovah Witnesses use the New World Translation
John 1:1
The NWT translates: “In [the] beginning the Word was, and the Word was with God, and the Word was a god.”
The NASB: “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.”
Acts 10:36
The NWT translates “He sent out the word to the sons of Israel to declare to them the good news of peace through Jesus Christ: this One is Lord of all [others].”
The NASB: “The word which He sent to the sons of Israel, preaching peace through Jesus Christ (He is Lord of all).”
Col 1:15-20
The NWT translates: “15 He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation 16 because by means of him all other things were created in the heavens and on the earth, the things visible and the things invisible, whether they are thrones or lordships or governments or authorities. All other things have been created through him and for him. 17 Also, he is before all other things, and by means of him all other things were made to exist, 18 and he is the head of the body, the congregation. He is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, so that he might become the one who is first in all things; 19 because God was pleased to have all fullness to dwell in him, 20 and through him to reconcile to himself all other things by making peace through the blood he shed on the torture stake, whether the things on the earth or the things in the heavens.”
The ESV: “15 He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation. 16 For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through him and for him. 17 And he is before all things, and in him all things hold together. 18 And he is the head of the body, the church. He is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in everything he might be preeminent. 19 For in him all the fullness of God was pleased to dwell, 20 and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether on earth or in heaven, making peace by the blood of his cross.”
We Have Every Reason to Celebrate and Worship (Rev. 22:20-21)
