God’s Transforming Grace

Titus 2:11-15

Grace Transforms Us to Live for Christ (Titus 2:11-12) What is Grace? Grace is God’s blessing to an undeserving mankind. We see it throughout scripture, the clothing in the Garden, the Ark, the exodus from Egypt, God’s provision in the wilderness, looking to the snake on the pole for healing, the list continues, then the cross.  It is salvation bestowed to us by God through faith in Jesus Christ. His work on the cross, his sacrifice for our sins, his shedding of blood for our sins, death, burial, and resurrection were accomplished so that through faith we would become followers of Jesus Christ eternally. Grace is God’s Riches At Christ Expense.

  1. Grace has come through Jesus Christ (v. 11) Acts 4:12 “and there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.”, John 14:6 “I am the way the truth, and the life, no one comes to the Father except through me”, Rom. 10:11 “For the Scripture says, “Everyone who believes in him will not be put to shame.”
  2. Grace must change us. (v.12) If the gospel hasn’t transformed you, you haven’t received God’s grace in salvation! We will fight sin, but if the fight is not in you, you have never met the Savior who is worth fighting sin for! We train others because the gospel has trained us! Older men pouring into younger men, Older women pouring into younger women, Employees shining Christ in the workplace because of the training received by the Holy Spirit through the work of God’s Grace! Grace must have changed us. “We are a new creation” according to 2 Cor. 5:17.

Grace Teaches Us to Look to Christ (Titus 2:13) “Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.” Heb. 11:1. The gospel is not rational! It doesn’t make sense unless the Holy Spirit, by God’s grace is teaching us to look to Christ for salvation, for hope!

  1. We Look to Him in His Second Coming.
  2. We Look to Him as our Savior.

Grace Turns Us to be Led by Christ (Titus 2:14)

  1. He purchased us.
  2. He purifies us.
  3. He has possession of us.
  4. He creates a passion for His work.

Grace Trains Us to Learn for Christ (Titus 2:15)

  1. Learn to Declare Biblical Truth. The word “declare” here means to say or to preach. How is this to be said or preached? With authority! The world does not know the truth of Christ if we do not speak the truth of Christ. Why do you believe people who are calling themselves Christians are ok with some sins? It’s because we haven’t declared the truth! “How then will they call on him in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in him of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone preaching?” Rom. 10:14. We are not just learning Biblical truth for the sake of knowledge. We are learning Biblical truth in order to reproduce disciples! We are disciples who are making disciples.

– Exhort- Part of declaring Biblical Truth is to Encourage.

– Rebuke- Part of declaring Biblical Truth is to Correct.

  1. Learn to be Devoted to your Identity in Christ. “Let no one disregard you.” Paul is not telling Titus that people will not dislike you because of following Jesus Christ, he is saying that your value is seen in Christ alone, other’s opinions should not disregard your calling to follow Jesus.

“The very point of the redemptive grace of God through Jesus is to save men from the corruption and damnation of sin… In Titus 2, Paul condenses the eternal plan of God in Christ by grace. He gives four aspects of God’s redemptive grace: salvation from the penalty (v.11), the power (v.12), the presence (v.13), and the possession (v.14) of sin.” – John MacArthur
