What is the difference between going to church and being the church? I believe Paul answers this question in Ephesians chapter 4.
- 7- Grace, a special gifting! Every member is a minister! Every Christian has a magnificent purpose!
- 8-10- Conquers the enemy, Satan, frees captives, us, the resurrection!
- 11- Different gifts that believers may have.
1 Corinthians 12:21-26 “The eye cannot say to the hand, “I have no need of you,” nor again the head to the feet, “I have no need of you.” 22 On the contrary, the parts of the body that seem to be weaker are indispensable, 23 and on those parts of the body that we think less honorable we bestow the greater honor, and our unpresentable parts are treated with greater modesty, 24 which our more presentable parts do not require. But God has so composed the body, giving greater honor to the part that lacked it, 25 that there may be no division in the body, but that the members may have the same care for one another. 26 If one member suffers, all suffer together; if one member is honored, all rejoice together.”

- 12- Equipping for a purpose, to minister! There are no Christians on the sidelines or in the rear echelons of the battlefield. Our purpose is to build up the body of Christ! There is a corporate dimension here in which we are together, unity. 1 Thess 3:10- the NT definition of Equipping is to supply what is lacking. “as we pray most earnestly night and day that we may see you face to face and supply what is lacking in your faith?” We see why we are to equip in verses 13 and 14.
You are grateful and willing to come here in order to be equipped to be used as instruments of God’s glory! We are a hospital for the sinner, a place to equip what is lacking! (We go to the gym example) Hebrews 10:24-25 “And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, 25 not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.”
Thankful for Your Gratitude v.12
- 13-14- Christian maturity produces unity.
- 15- Growing to become like Christ, Romans 8:29 “For those whom he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, in order that he might be the firstborn among many brothers.” We are created to be like Jesus!
- 16- Unity purposes growth that displays love! Love is the product of Christ. 1 Corinthians 13:1-3 “If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. 2 And if I have prophetic powers, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. 3 If I give away all I have, and if I deliver up my body to be burned, but have not love, I gain nothing.”

When you grow in Christ, you not only go to church but you are the church. You are going everywhere for Christ!!!
