Isaiah 7:14
J

Isaiah 7:14 “Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign. Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.”

God’s gift, His son, is to…

Communicate With Us.  “Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign.”

God’s does not want us to wonder throughout this world blind to what He has given us.  He desires to communicate to His children.  God sent a sign!

The birth of Jesus was predicted several hundred years before it happened.  Prophecies were written between 1450 BC and 430 BC. Manuscripts have been found to prove they were written at least 400 – 1000 years before He was born.

Connect with Us “Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son,…”

The Christian doctrine of Incarnation states that the Lord Jesus Christ, the eternal Son of God, became a man.  Why?

John shares this doctrine in Chapter 1 where he writes, ”In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God . . . And the Word became flesh.” He who was one with the Father from all eternity became Man, taking upon Him a human body. He ”was with God” (vs. 1); He ”became flesh” (vs. 14). He “was with God”’ (vs. 1); He ”dwelt among us” (vs. 14).

Three reasons Jesus become a man.

Three reasons Jesus connected to us by becoming a man

  1. Jesus connected to us to experience our hardships and pains. Hebrews 4:15 “For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin.” To feel our suffering
  2. Jesus connected to us to be the ultimate sacrifice. Hebrews 2:14 “Since therefore the children share in flesh and blood, he himself likewise partook of the same things, that through death he might destroy the one who has the power of death, that is, the devil,” To be our sacrifice
  3. Jesus connected to us so that we could be adopted. Galatians 4:4-5 “But when the fullness of time had come, God sent forth his Son, born of woman, born under the law, to redeem those who were under the law, so that we might receive adoption as sons.” To be our Savior

Commune with Us. “and shall call his name Immanuel.”

Immanuel means God with us.  God desires to have a relationship with us.

John 1:10-13 “He was in the world, and the world was made through him, yet the world did not know him. He came to his own, and his own people did not receive him. But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God, who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God.”
