The Truth

John 8:31-38

According to Barna Research: only 53% of Americans in 2011 believe the Bible to be a sufficient guide for living a meaningful life. Only 45% in 2016.

Jesus Provides the Way to Know the Truth vv.31-32

2 Timothy 3:16-17 “All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, 17 that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.”

Jesus Proclaims the Conditions as a Result of the Truth vv.33-35

4 dangers if the church does not proclaim the truth

1) It’s possible to be a practical atheist!

  To hear the word, know the word, but not do the word.  James 1:22, “…be does of the word…”  (Example: asking someone to do a task and they memorize and study the task but it’s not done.)

1 Corinthians 1:18 “For the word of the cross is folly to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.”

2) If we don’t proclaim the truth, idol worship happens.

  We start to form a Jesus that looks and feels a lot like us, a comfortable American Jesus. 

3) Most important factor is that people will perish if we don’t hold the line of truth!

  2 Thessalonians 2:10 “and with all wicked deception for those who are perishing, because they refused to love the truth and so be saved.”  This one hurts my heart the most for the love of Christ and His truth!

1 Corinthians 4:20 “For the kingdom of God does not consist in talk but in power.”

We must be plugged into the source.  We must be on our knees and in the word and on the streets!  Talk is cheap, Hell is real, Heaven is ready, souls are perishing, His grace is more than sufficient, His blood cleanses the dirtiest of mankind, let’s get to work for Christ and His truth!

4) People will not be freed if they don’t know the truth

.  Isaiah 42:6-8 “I am the Lord; I have called you[a] in righteousness; I will take you by the hand and keep you; I will give you as a covenant for the people, a light for the nations, 7 to open the eyes that are blind, to bring out the prisoners from the dungeon, from the prison those who sit in darkness. 8 I am the Lord; that is my name; my glory I give to no other, nor my praise to carved idols.” 

Luke 19:10 “For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.” 

Jesus Promises Freedom for all that Hold the Truth vv.36-38

Jesus farther explains this in 39-47.

Our hearts desire is for everyone to experience the true joy of knowing Christ!  What’s the answer!  The truth of the Great Commission!  The Holy Spirit is still harvesting, we’ve got to plant, cultivate, and we’ll see the harvest as we love the truth of Jesus Christ!

Romans 15:13 “May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope.”
