Jesus is testing the Pharisees in this text. He is letting them know 4 main elements of biblical theology: 1) He and the Father are one, The Trinity. 2) Salvation is found in Christ and nowhere else, The Exclusive Path. 3) Those who follow Christ will be drawn, the sealing of by the Holy Spirit 4) Christ will lay down His life for His sheep, The crucifixion and resurrection.
The Shepherd is Gathering the Flock vv.1-6
Jeremiah 23:3 “Then I will gather the remnant of my flock out of all the countries where I have driven them, and I will bring them back to their fold, and they shall be fruitful and multiply.”
Matthew 24:14 “And this gospel of the kingdom will be proclaimed throughout the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come.”
The Shepherd is the Life Giving Door vv.7-10
The shepherd would lay down at the opening of a corral in order to keep out danger and protect the sheep.
John 14:6 “Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”
Acts 4:12 “And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men[a] by which we must be saved.”
The Shepherd is Gracious, Giving His Life vv.11-18
v.16- refers to the Gentiles.
