The Joys of the Resurrection

1 Peter 1:3-9

An Undying Hope v.3

1 Peter 3:15 “but in your hearts honor Christ the Lord as holy, always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you; yet do it with gentleness and respect,”

An Unfading Inheritance vv.4-5

Matthew 6:19-20 “Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal,

but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal.”

An Unwavering Perseverance vv.6-7

Hebrews 10:32-34 “But recall the former days when, after you were enlightened, you endured a hard struggle with sufferings,

³³ sometimes being publicly exposed to reproach and affliction, and sometimes being partners with those so treated. ³⁴

For you had compassion on those in prison, and you joyfully accepted the plundering of your property, since you knew that you yourselves had a better possession and an abiding one.”

An Unending Joy vv.8-9

In John 16:22 Jesus was sharing with His followers about His upcoming death and resurrection. Listen to the unending joy that Jesus gives as a result of the resurrection that is described in John 16:22 “So also you have sorrow now, but I will see you again, and your hearts will rejoice, and no one will take your joy from you.”

In verse 8 Peter is writing to people like us, those who haven’t seen Jesus! Love without seeing, knowing, experiencing, is not true, real love! In the new birth, when we’re reborn, when we place faith in Jesus Christ, we now know Christ, our eyes and hearts have been opened! We now love Christ! You want undying hope, than you want Christ! You want unfading inheritance, than you want Christ! You want unweaving perseverance, than you want Christ! You want unending joy, you want Christ Jesus the joy of the resurrection for eternity!

You will not experience the joys of the resurrection unless you join with the ONE who was resurrected!
